SLIDE 1

Academic Integrity is very important to DeVry University.
This presentation will discuss the Student Academic Integrity policy, what are the violations, prevention methods and the sanctions that will be applied if found in violation of this policy.

SLIDE 2

Let’s start with where you can locate the policy. The Student Academic Integrity policy is in the Student Handbook and on your student portal page under Academic Resources.
You can also find the handbook on your Campus community page under Student Services, or speak with your advisor to obtain a copy.

SLIDE 3

It’s important that you, as a student of DeVry University, read the policy and familiarize yourself with it.
In the Overview section of the policy, it states,“This academic integrity policy is designed to foster a fair and impartial set of standards by which alleged violations of the policy are judged. All students are required to adhere to these standards.
So, what types of activities fall within this policy?

SLIDE 4

The Student Academic Integrity policy outlines the types of violations that are included in this area. Some of these are more common and others are rare, but keep in mind that academic integrity encompasses a whole range of behaviors that is governed by this policy.

These behaviors range from copying work from someone else – to plagiarizing from a reference or source - or collaborating with others when it hasn’t been expressly directed by the professor.
Issues may occur when academics records are altered. Integrity may be compromised when unauthorized study or testing aids are used. Even the use of proprietary materials falls within this policy. Any misrepresentation of the facts of a situation involving the creation of course work - or the offering of an incentive in trade for favorable treatment can be considered an academic integrity violation.

So, how can you as a student uphold the integrity of the University and your degree? Well, as this picture shows, we need to avoid temptation.
With technology tools available today at your fingertips, it is important to learn how to conduct research and write your assignments that are your own original work! The use of mobile technology, cell phones, the Internet, and social media have a place – but typically not in the creation of original coursework.
If you have any questions on how to complete an assignment, course project, lab, quiz, or exam, please reach out to your Professor immediately for help and guidance. If you are at a campus and struggling in your course, visit the ASC and work with one of the tutors that is available! If you are attending an online course and need help, Smarthinking has tutors available for live chats! You can also submit your papers for feedback from a tutor!
Also, visit your campus library or visit the online library.  If online, click on Ask a Librarian. The librarian is available to help you with your research needs.

If your course requires written assignments or PowerPoint presentations, check the Dropbox for the Turnitin feature that is integrated in your course.  Turnitin is a tool that will help guide you when using outside resources in your written Word projects and when you create a PowerPoint presentation. Once you submit the paper or PowerPoint in the Dropbox, an Originality Report will be provided via the Gradebook that will show if you have cited all of your sources and what percent of outside sources you used in your assignment. Ask your professor for the guidelines on what percentage of outside resources can be used in your assignment. Professors tend to want to see a low percentage, so you can apply what you have learned in the course in your assignment.
