Welcome to the Using the DegreeWorks Planner tutorial.  This module covers the planner tool in DegreeWorks.  A plan lays out which courses you intend to take each term.  You can work on a plan on your own or together with your student services adviser if you are a Chamberlain student, your student success coach if you are a DeVry or Keller student, or your academic advisor if you are an online student.  Note that creating a plan is not the same as registering for classes.  You will still need to register for classes either with self-service or with your advisor or coach.

You start DegreeWorks by clicking the DegreeWorks link in the My Degree channel on the My Degree and Classes tab of the student portal.  The Degree Audits tab is the default view and shows you your degree audit.  The header at the top of the page shows your identifying information.  Let’s look at the top of the audit side.

The table lists details about you and your program just as it does on the – let’s look at the planner side.  At the top is information about you and the plan that is currently displayed.  This is where you select planner term for the catalogue term and enter a description when you save the plan.  In Notes mode – Calendar mode lists terms horizontally in sets of six terms, one for each term of the year.

If you do not have any saved plans, you can just start creating a plan.  If you want to create a new plan but a plan if currently loaded, select Add New Plan from the dropdown list at the top of the Planner tab and click the Load button.  Add New Plan clears any courses currently on the right side of the page.  Note, you will not be reminded to save.  Any changes you have made will be lost if you have not saved changes to the currently loaded plan.

There are two ways to add courses to the plan.  You can drag and drop a class from the audit by clicking on the course name, holding the mouse button and dragging the course over to the term, or you can enter the subject, a space, and then the course number.  To view more information about the courses selected for a term, click on the More Info on These Classes link.  A separate window displays information from the catalogue, including prerequisites.

If you want to move a course from one term to another, click on the dashed lines next to the course and drag – the plan name now appears at the top of the planner.  Once a plan has been saved, you can load it into the planner page.  Click the dropdown list next to the name, select the name of the plan you want to load, and click the load button.  The plan is loaded.  A plan can be locked by your advisor or coach.  If a plan is locked, a message appears when the plan is loaded, and the words “Plan is Locked” appear on the planner.  You can’t save changes to a locked plan, but you can save it to a different name by clicking the Save As button and following the steps for saving a plan.

Up to now, we have looked at the planner in Edit mode, but there is also a View mode.  Click the View option button and click the Load button.  The audit is removed, and only the plan is displayed.  This is handy if you want to print out your plan using the Print button at the top of the planner pane.  Printing from View mode is easier to read.  Remember the Calendar mode?  If we view the Calendar mode in View mode, it will –
